Indo-Pacific Warm Pool variability

Indo-Pacific Warm Pool is the warmest body of water mass on Earth. It is deemed the heat engine of the global climate. Thus changes in this region may influence the global climate. At present, climate variability here is linked to the inter-annual variability of El Niño Southern Oscillation. But how does it vary in the past, and how may it vary in the future? To answer this question, we use the geochemical analyses of individual foraminifera shells. The spread in the geochemical signals of these tiny shells contains information about seasonality, ecology and climate variability. A good handle on the attribution of these factors is the first step towards a robust reconstruction of past climate variability using this technique.
